Our Vision
Loving God and Loving our Neighbors
The Christian & Missionary Alliance
Who we are
Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Matthew 28:19–20
The Christian and Missionary Alliance, otherwise known as the C&MA or The Alliance, is an evangelical denomination full of believers who long to introduce the love of God to all nations.
The Alliance was birthed in 1887 when Pastor A. B. Simpson organized a small group of believers devoted to experiencing Jesus in His fullness and making Him known to New York City’s marginalized dock workers.
The Alliance has always had a desire to follow God’s call, to bring His hope to the nations, and to carry out our vision of All of Jesus for All the World. By caring for suffering and overlooked people through 2,000 U.S. churches and more than 700 international workers serving in 70 countries, the C&MA longs to see Jesus’ name proclaimed in every tribe and tongue to fulfill the Great Commission.
That’s our mission—to go and make disciples of all nations, to bring all of Jesus to all of the world.
What We Believe
It’s all about Jesus
In The Alliance, we are Jesus people. We say, “All of Jesus,” because we’re after His Lordship, a complete transformation in our lives through His Spirit. Scripture tells us that “the same power that raised Jesus from the grave is at work within us.” If we believe that, then our lives change. We don’t get as distracted by the latest fad or the newest way to do things because our focus is on Jesus and His supremacy—in everything. We say, “All of Jesus,” because we also believe that it’s possible to believe things about Jesus but not surrender our lives to Him. It is only in that full surrender that we resonate with His heartbeat, offering the hope only He can provide to the world’s marginalized and overlooked.
You see, “All of Jesus” is not just for us; we’re redeemed for other people. That’s why the Alliance family has a 140-some year history of leaning in, together, on Jesus’ big assignment—fulfill His Great Commission. We’re about taking “All of Jesus” to “All the World”—that’s why we take His loving message to our neighbors and the nations and to the nations that have come to our neighborhoods.
The Fourfold Gospel
As we seek to know Jesus personally, being one with Him, He will reveal Himself as our Savior, Sanctifier, Healer, and Coming King. A. B. Simpson called this theology the Fourfold Gospel, the Christological summary on which the spiritual DNA of The Christian and Missionary Alliance is built.
Christ Our Savior
The cross reminds us of His sacrificial death and Resurrection as the Atonement for the sins of humankind (Acts 4:12).
Christ Our Sanctifier
The laver represents the daily cleansing from sin by the power of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 1:30).
Christ Our Healer
The pitcher represents oil to anoint the sick for physical, emotional, and spiritual healing (James 5:15).
Christ Our Coming King
The crown represents Christ’s royalty as the King of Kings. His coming will be a visible, personal appearance (Mark 14:62).
Statement of Faith
What The Alliance believes is foundational in its teachings about God, how He relates to us, and how we relate to Him. Based on His written Word, the Bible, we are compelled to serve God and the people of His world. We live and die by these words and believe they bring the only life worth living—one wholly committed to the King, Jesus.
